KALYPSO BITS & PIECES:

Future Period Transactions

We have seen future period transactions cause problems for our Kalypso customers.  Before you run month end processes you should check to see that there are no rogue future period transactions.  In AR, AP, and GL, you can run a current transaction report.  Look for dates that are future months. 

NOTE:  We are looking to add a future date scan to the cloud backup process so you will also be able to see future transactions reported on a nightly basis and allow you to correct them before month end.

DON’T RUN ON OLD HARDWARE

In the past, you have been encouraged to stay on Windows XP and keep your old hardware.  Here is a new message.  The risk of staying on old hardware is greater than upgrading to a new computer with Internet access, current Windows updates and virus protection.  This is our recommended hardware configuration.

  • Windows 7 or Windows 10 Kalypso workstations – Please check that your Printers are Windows 10 compatible before you order or purchase new printers
  • Windows 7, Windows 10 or Windows 2008 server or higher for the Kalypso Server
  • Connect to the internet to run Nightly Cloud based Backups
  • Run Antivirus Software
  • Purchase a business level firewall from an IT professional – a retail home router will not protect you the way you require.
  • Replace your old network switch. If your network switch is more than 5 years old you should consider replacing it before it fails. 
  • Be Online for Remote Support. We can easily help if we can see what you are seeing.

Hardware Upgrades

Numerous customers have already upgraded to Windows 10 and it is business as usual. One caution though; please verify that your printers are compatible with Windows 10 before you start your upgrade. Have your IT support person give us a call if they have any questions about upgrading your hardware environments. Contego can also supply you with new upgraded hardware, give us a call and we’d be happy to quote you on new hardware that suits your needs. We want to see all Kalypso customers running on Virus protected, stable and secure environments.

Contego Initiatives:

Contego is testing a change that would allow you to identify the current logged on user.  We had one client who had a workstation left logged on but they couldn’t tell who the user was.

The Future Period Transactions Scan is going to be rolled out as part of the nightly backup routine to allow you to see any transactions you posted to future periods.

It's Easy Being Green

We know that many of you have asked for your invoices to be emailed instead of being mailed and we’d like to get to the point where most of our invoices are emailed out. Electronic payment is also an option – either by Direct Bank Transfer or an Interac e-Transfer. Email Heather at admin@contegotech.ca if you’d like to get either of these set up and she’ll send you the information that you need.
